HistologyOLM
HistologyOLM (version 3.0) is an online laboratory manual I've created for my Histology course (Biol 331) at the University of Mary Washington. The HistologyOLM is designed to serve as a guide to the microscopic examination of mammalian tissues. While the manual might serve as a useful reference tool, it is designed to be used along-side the microscope as a genuine laboratory manual that directs students through a systematic examination of vertebrate / mammalian tissue structure.
The first version of HistologyOLM, created back in 1999, was my first attempt at creating this type of instructional tool. It was a conventional software application, developed using Microsoft's WebBrowser Control and distributed to my students on CD.
Version 2.0 of the HistologyOLM was developed for Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5+ and distributed for public viewing via the internet in 2001. It was featured in Campus Technology Magazine (formally Syllabus Magazine) in 2002. This version of the manual was based on the version 1.0 script, which was optimized for use with the WebBrowser control, and therefore behaved properly only in Internet Explorer 5+ running on the Windows platform.
The current version of the manual, version 3.0, is still under development. It is being built using Drupal 6.0 as the content management system and publishing platform. As such, it is compatible with all modern-day browsers.
