CellBiologyOLM (version 3.0) is an on-line laboratory manual I've created for Biol 211, Cellular Biology, at the University of Mary Washington. This laboratory manual is a comprehensive guide to the laboratory exercises performed in the course. Each lab exercise contains a wealth of background information about the concepts and principles covered in the experiment, and a full description of the experiment, including experimental design, materials and protocols. Each week, enrolled students are expected to read and understand the background material and the experimental protocols before coming to lab. Students are expected to walk into lab each week understanding the principles and concepts explained in the background reading and familiar with the design and methods used in the experiment. In lab, students will log-in to the manual to access on-line data submission forms that accompany the experiment. As students perform the experiment, they will record and save their raw data. Outside of lab, students will log-in to their laboratory notebooks to retrieve and analyze their data and access the post-laboratory assignment.
Previous versions of CellBiologyOLM go back several years. Version 1.0 was built using the UMWBlogs implementation of the Wordpress publishing platform. In version 2.0 I moved away from Wordpress and adopted Drupal 5.0 as the content management system and publishing platform. The current version of the manual, still under construction, has been updated to Drupal 6.0.
